There are PEM evaluators who are coaches, scouts, recruiters or x-athletes that advertise their expertise as an evaluator for individuals, events, groups or teams for a fee. They may or may not be associated with one team or organization but these evaluators promote their evaluation services to others for a charge.
Yes. Depending on your hardware setup, you can open multiple evaluations at a time.
Simply put it is to expand the coverage and operation of the evaluation. One example of a multi-device evaluation is as follows. One device sets on a table where someone is typing in the participant’s information. This device on the table is casting to a second device (easily done without cables or an internet connection) set on a tripod next to the sign in person. As participants sign in, the first device on the table is casting the entry form screen to the second device on the tripod. As the information is being typed in, the participant can easily view what the sign in person is typing and to verify that it is or is not correct. If it is correct, the participant can simply touch the “Add” button on the second device to finish entering themselves into the evaluation. A third device such as a TV monitor can also be connected to one of the devices to cast and to preview the evaluation reports. Also, some evaluators have their tablets in rugged hand-held case enclosures (moving throughout the evaluation) that is also casting to TV monitors on tables, on walls, fences, boards, etc. to cast evaluation reports as they finish each station or category. There are many scenarios why casting to multiple devices makes sense.
This can be done with one device or several devices. With one device (Tablet, Laptop) setup your device on a table at which you are sitting and question the registering participants for their information (i.e., name, age, jersey #, grad year, etc.) and enter it directly into the “Player Names” form. Also, if you have a camera setup on a tripod at the table, you can take their pictures and easily add the pictures to their player profile. With one device you can enter all of the participant’s information and then proceed to the testing stations to begin the evaluations. Using one device for evaluations is well suited for sole evaluators.
Yes. In this app there are 10 sports with pre-defined sample metrics already typed in. They are Baseball, Basketball, Football, Hockey, Soccer, Softball, Strength & Conditioning, Track – field events, Track – running events, and Volleyball. This app allows you, the evaluator to type in any metric label and category heading that you want. You are not limited to any sport or any label. Type the labels in and evaluate what you want. Mix and match, drag and drop, or type in any labels that suits your evaluation. You can also modify the 10 pre-defined sample metrics by mix and match, drag and drop, or type in labels and can create and save up to 5 “Favorite” sets of metrics.
No. The app is set up to handle 1 or up to 48 defined metrics and 1 or up to 6 categories. Each category can have up to 8 defined metrics. Evaluations can be created based on 1 category with 1 defined metric or any combination of up to six categories with up to 48 defined metrics. You can build and query reports based on 1 category or up to all six categories.
You need 1 license per device (tablet, laptop, desktop) for each user.
You can evaluate athlete / players as often as you’d prefer. For example. If you wanted to show the players their evaluation when coming into your program and if you/they wanted to track their progress monthly, re-evaluate them in one month and compare results. Some programs do an evaluation when the season starts and then does an exit evaluation at the end of the season to high-light what skills to work on in the off-season. There is no prescribed frequency as to when and how often evaluations need to occur.
Lock down the evaluation by going to the Setup Preferences form and then select the System Preferences tab and click or touch on the “Lock me” icon. Afterwards you will be prompted to enter your administrator password and then select what portions of the evaluation to lock down (Players, Preferences, Kiosk mode, or all three). To unlock the evaluation simply click or touch on either the Enter Players or the Setup Preferences icons to be prompted to re-enter your password to unlock it.
When at the Evaluation Rankings form select the Print icon. There you will see all of the six named categories with a check box underneath named “Hide this category”. Click or touch on this check box to prevent printing that category on the report.
The best way to described it is when you want to isolate or high-light a player’s name and numeric rankings on the ranking reports. This will hide all of the other player names while keeping their numeric values shown on the reports. Some evaluators use this method to give printed ranking reports to the individual without him/her seeing the other names in the evaluation. It shows the player where they stand compared to all others. Other evaluators use it to quickly locate a player on all the ranking reports.
Simply think of it this way. A coach enters all of his player names into the evaluation and he evaluates all of the players (1 to Many). Conversely, enter just a coach name and have the entire team give their evaluation of the coach’s performance. Go to the Setup Preferences form and then select the Setup Preferences tab. There you will see two drop down boxes under the heading of “Select labels used on the Enter names form”. Select the top drop down box and you will see seven labels to use for 1 to Many and Many to 1 evaluations. There is an abundant combination of how to setup evaluations.
Those options are available in the Setup Preferences form / Setup Preferences tab in the bottom drop down box under the heading of “Select labels used on the Enter names form”. All of these seven options are identified throughout the entire evaluation and can be sorted on at the rankings tabulation reports. For example select the “Age” option and then go to the Enter Names form and you will notice that after entering a player’s name the next field ask for the Age of the player. This is how an evaluator would use this: the evaluator enters players or athletes and their ages and then when at the Rankings Tabulation reports the evaluator wants to sort or filter out say all of the 19 or 20 year olds and then build the reports that way. Another example would be selecting “GradYear”. A college recruiter at a travel team showcase event may want to sort and filter say all of the players by their Graduate Year. Another example is to use the “E-ID” option. The evaluator is at a combine or a tryout where all participants have a number ID pinned to their jersey. These options basically extend the depth and detail the evaluator has at its disposal when sorting and filtering the reports.
They are used exactly how they are described. When building and printing complete reports it’s nice to have color separator pages between each section of the print outs. The banner or separator pages allow you to print up to 125 characters per page. For example, one banner page may have printed on it “Top Ten Offensive Players” or “Highlighted Top Candidates” or “All Pitchers” or “Line Backers at Least 6’2” and Less Than a 4.45- 40yd Dash” etc. Use them to high light or to identify sections of the printed reports. The front office likes that.
If you are using a tablet that does not have a keyboard attached to it, a stylus pen and finger gestures will be the only options to communicate with PEM. Open the On Screen Keyboards and select the On Screen Writing Pad option. Use the stylus pen to write text and numerical values into PEM and use the stylus to navigate throughout the App. Also, at the Rate Players form you can turn on the Stylus Touch pad and or a Numeric keypad to enter numeric values using touch or a stylus pen. Using a stylus pen is easier and less awkward to use especially when evaluations are done on the field, in a gymnasium or, anywhere keyboards are not attached.
There is no definitive answer for this. Let’s try to clarify a few items. First, the ranking tabulation reports have endless combinations using the sorting and filter options. Evaluators can create any scenario of combinations of what to display in each report. Run several scenarios, print a banner page for each scenario and repeat the process until you are satisfied with reporting the results of the evaluation (the best-of-the-best, the fastest, all left-handers, etc.) Evaluators can sort and filter any combination of the up to 48 skill sets that the evaluator has defined. Secondly, the evaluator can print custom headers on each of the printed rankings reports. Use these additional options for even more clarification.
In order for others to legally use PEM, they must have a licensed copy of the App. If that is the case, create and share PEM evaluations amongst your evaluators, your peers, and any other licensed user. You can freely disseminate any of the printed reports.
No. Let’s use an example. The evaluator has named the evaluation “2017 Combine Los Angeles”. Every time the ranking reports are export, the exported file names use a sequential naming convention. Using this example, the first time you export the ranking reports the Excel file will be named “2017 Combine Los Angeles”, the second time you export the reports the file will be named “2017 Combine Los Angeles 2” and so forth. Create as many scenarios for the evaluation and freely export and/or print them to be included in the entire report.
Adding photos to a players profile is done at the Rate Players form. The sequence is to first create a photo folder while in a player’s ratings profile (click or touch on the Create Photo Folder icon). Afterward open that photo folder and copy or move the player’s photos into it. Remember to use the photo files naming convention. For example a player’s name is Mickey Mintles. Name one of his photos Mickey Mintles and name the second photo
Mickey Mintles 2, and so on.
Printing the entire evaluation can be a lengthy report. The sequence of the printed reports using this option is as follows. First a cover page is printed (some evaluators recommend using a heavier stock paper for the cover page). After that is printed a listing of all the names in the evaluation is printed, then the evaluators notes are printed, then six pages of reports for each player is printed followed by four pages of ranking reports and one page of added comments. So for example if there were ten athletes being evaluated the entire report could be more than 75 pages and this does not include any additional banner pages or additional ranking report scenarios. After printing the entire report, bind it before turning it over to its final destination.
Create a new evaluation and enter the name(s) of those to be evaluated. Create you categories and evaluation labels and then rate (evaluate) each participant in your class. Print daily, weekly, monthly ranking reports and post them on the bulletin board for all to see. To avoid having names on the reports, change “Player Name” or “Athlete” to “E-ID” in the setup preferences section and use an ID tag for each participant.
It’s to explain or to expand upon the definition of the label. Evaluators who setup the evaluation use this feature to relay to the evaluators what he/she is actually looking for in that skill set. Evaluators can view (turn on/turn off) comments when rating the player or when viewing the ranking tabulation reports. This is very useful when presenting your evaluation to a group. It can show the group exactly what the athlete was rated on.
Yes, if you want to compare all of the evaluated players in the evaluation and, No, if you do not want to compare all of the athletes in the evaluation. To help you decide whether or not to rank the current player, go to the Evaluation Rankings report form to preview your evaluation of that player. This report displays all of the numeric values of the evaluation, and displays each of the categories graphically. It also calculates a numeric “Rating” for that athlete / player. After reviewing the report you realize that this player’s ODP Rating is 6.67 and you’ve decided within your scheme of evaluations that you are looking for players that pull a 7.00 or greater. You can then decide if this player needs to be ranked and compared with the other players. If not, do not rank them. If so, rank them to be compared with others.
